Pyxie moss flowers; From Natural Gardens (page 380): "Very low, creeping perennials with white flowers solitary and terminating the numerous branchlets; stamens 5, attached to the corolla tube; pistil of 3 united carpels: leaves small, evergreen more or less overlapping. Two species: P. brevifolia (Fig. 83) forms flat compact mats in deep, dry sand; leaves very short, seldom over 1/16 in. long. Rare species only known from vicinity of Spout Springs, Harnett County, North Carolina. Early spring."
