Image description:
Few sculptures in the round have survived from the Angkor Wat period, and few of those are still in situ. The Buddha seated on the n¿ga with three coils is a form known since the 10th century. For the first time in this period the Buddha takes on the appearance and attributes of a Brahmanic deity. His torso is uncovered, and he wears a diadem and neck and ear jewelry. The facial features, at first severe, grow softer in the course of the 12th century.
